16 more new Covid-19 cases confirmed

Herald Reporter
SIXTEEN new Covid-19 cases were confirmed yesterday, with 11 of these being patients infected within Zimbabwe, although all by contact from known people previously infected.

The other five were all returnees from South Africa.

In the latest statistics the Ministry of Health and Child Care said there were 213 rapid screening tests and 302 diagnostic PCR tests done yesterday.

There are now 479 confirmed cases, 63 confirmed recoveries and four deaths in the cumulative totals.

Globally there are now 456 726 deaths from 8 546 919 confirmed cases, although the number of cases is probably significantly higher since not all countries, especially those that have been severely hit, test all sick people or all people likely to be infected, reserving their test capacity for the vulnerable groups.

South Africa remains the epicentre of the Southern African area, with 83 890 confirmed cases, overtaking China in the last 24 hours, but with 1 737 deaths, a little over a third of those seen in China.
