A total of 24 people were reported missing in Bulawayo between March and April this year, but it has since emerged that most of the girls reported missing had infact eloped with their boyfriends.

Police in Bulawayo said 17 of the missing persons have since been found and these are mostly girls who eloped with their boyfriends and boys that escaped from juvenile correctional centres.

“Between March and April this year, 24 people were reported missing in the city and 17 of them have since been found. Most of them are girls who had eloped with their boyfriends and juveniles who ran away from juvenile correction centres,” said Bulawayo police spokesperson ,Inspector Abednico Ncube.

He said it was illegal for men to have a relationship with girls under the age of 18 and as such those eloping with these girls risk being prosecuted.

Insp Ncube urged members of the public who have persons they reported missing but were found, to come forward so that police can update their database.
