A FORMER St Francis High School A Level student who obtained 17 points last year is appealing for financial assistance to pursue his studies further.

Reuben Bhala (22) who stays with his mother in their rural home in Tshitshi Ward, Mangwe District said his ambition was to study Law at the Great Zimbabwe University.

He said his mother, a subsistence farmer could not afford to pay his college fees while his father who works as a domestic worker in Botswana was struggling to sustain the family.

a?I completed my A-Level studies last year at St Francis High School and I obtained 17 points. I scored an A in English Literature, an A in History, an A in Business Studies and D in Geography.

a?It has always been my dream to study Law but my family is facing financial challenges that can make it difficult for me to pursue my studies further. I would like to appeal to any well wisher who can finance my studies,a? he said.

Bhala passed his O-Level studies with four As, four Bs and a C in 2013. He said his parents struggled to put him through primary and secondary education which caused him to defer his studies.

He said he managed to get a scholarship with the Roman Catholic Church Congregation of the Precious Blood Sisters (CPS) in 2013 who paid for his A-Level studies.

Bhala said he recently tried to join the Air force of Zimbabwe but failed his interview because he has a poor eye sight.

a?My wish is to study and sustain my family. I have a younger sister aged 18 who is currently not attending school.

She completed her O-Level last year but she owes the school $340 in unpaid fees and they are holding onto her results.

a?I have tried to apply for different scholarships but without luck. I hope when the time comes for me to attend university I would have secured funding,a? he said.

The councillor of his area, Sindisiwe Nleya said it was a pity that some children from the rural areas failed to pursue their studies even after scoring goods results because of financial constraints.

She said Bhala was one of the youths which the Tshitshi community boasted about and appealed for well wishers to assist him.
