A 17-year-old Gokwe man died from wounds he sustained after being stabbed by a friend following a misunderstanding after a drinking spree.
Melly Mlilo, of Mhlauli Village under Chief Madhliwa in Nkayi, died after being stabbed by his friend, Leon Moyo, following a misunderstanding while on their way home after having spent the day drinking together.
Midlands police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said the incident occurred on August 28.
“Allegations are that on 28 August, the now deceased was drinking with Moyo at Nyanje Business Centre. They later decided to walk home,” said Insp Mahoko.
“Along the way, a misunderstanding ensued between the two over yet to be ascertained reasons.
“Moyo drew an okapi and stabbed the now deceased once in the back before disappearing from the scene. Mlilo decided to walk back to Nyanje Business Centre to seek assistance. Unfortunately, he collapsed and died before he could make it there.”
His body was discovered the following morning by a passerby.
“Investigations by the police led to the arrest of Moyo and he is in police custody,” said Inspector Mahoko.
He urged members of the public to desist from using violence in solving disputes.
“Members of the public should not resort to using violence in case of misunderstanding.
“I urge them to solve differences amicably and alternatively seek the intervention of a third party if talks do not yield results,” said Insp Mahoko.
