197 nurses, 47 midwives graduate

“One of the very important accomplishments is that Harare Central Hospital has an unusual ability to handle heavy workload owing to the dedicated staff and that has resulted in us being referred to as Harare Hospital Hapazari,” she said.
The school of nursing has only 12 lecturers out of the recommended 32.
Principal tutor at the school of nursing Mrs Irene Sambo said it should be independent from the hospital.
“Our annual budget is consolidated with the rest of the hospital, but we would prefer a separate consideration as this has resulted in us acquiring inadequate material resources such as scanners and photocopiers,” she said. 
The school enrolled 158 students this year in its three intakes and at least 498 are undergoing training, with 14 students coming from the uniformed forces.
Guest of honour at the graduation ceremony and Mimosa managing director Mr Winston Chitando urged the corporate sector to inject funds into major schools where health professionals are trained.
“Let’s not forget that more work still needs to be done at such an institution with vital talent pool that we need to be constantly drawing from to give traction to the nation’s health,” said Mr Chitando.
The school would soon introduce paediatric nurse training with help from the Ministry of Health and Child Welfare and the Embassy of Australia.
