SADC Ministers congratulate Botswana

THE SADC Committee of Ministers Responsible for Disaster Risk Management have congratulated Botswana for a smooth transfer of power after elections held a few weeks ago.
The announcement was made by Ms Maipelo Mophuting, the Deputy Minister in the Office of the President in Botswana during a Southern Africa El Nino Roundtable discussion at the Sadc Committee of Ministers Responsible for Disaster Risk Management meeting in Victoria Falls.
Botswana held Presidential elections on 30 October and Duma Gideon Boko, who was opposition Umbrella for Democratic Change won the race ending almost six decades of Botswana Democratic Party rule.
He becomes Botswana’s 6th President.
“Let me start by appreciating the well-wishes from colleagues here and everyone from across Sadc who have been congratulating us for a seamless transition of power. Botswana continues to be a beacon of light in the region and continent,” she said.
President Boko was in Victoria Falls almost a fortnight ago for the World Children’s Day Celebrations where he said his door was open to the whole region.
