smashing him to the ground at a memorial service.
The brothers Jonah (38) and Obvious Gotora (27) and Babureji Madiro (20) were not formally charged when they appeared before Harare magistrate, Mr Donald Ndirowei.
Mr Ndirowei remanded them in custody to October 13 this year and advised them to apply for bail at the High Court.
Prosecutor Mr David Magwegwe alleged that on September 11 this year, the three were at Marvelous Ngwerume’s homestead in N’andu Village under Chief Chinamhora, attending a memorial service.
He said they were drinking beer together with the now deceased, McKenzie Rubvuwa, who later went and slept behind the house.
Mr Magwegwe said Madiro came and lifted Rubvuwa and violently threw him to the ground before Mujoza Madzama restrained him. Rubvuwa went into the kitchen and after an hour, the Gotora brothers dragged him out of the kitchen and smashed him to the ground several times. The court heard that they smashed his head on a rock, before leaving him for dead.
Rubvuwa was later found lying unconscious on the road that leads to his house, with bruises on his face.
He was taken to hospital where his condition drastically deteriorated and died. According to post mortem results, Rubvuwa died as a result of subdural haematoma, incurred from the assault injuries.
