Victim turns accused

The girl was taken from the witness stand into police custody after confessing to making a false report against her boyfriend Tawanda Zhemi.
Zhemi was appearing before regional magistrate Ms Memory Chigwaza on rape charges.
Zhemi pleaded not guilty to the charges and was discharged by the courts.
“We became intimate and I told him that I was pregnant and he dismissed the claims and I decided to have him arrested because he had rejected me,” she told the court. She admitted the intimacy was by consent.
Prosecutor Tinashe Kanyemba alleged the girl went into town sometime in April this year and met Zhemi who reportedly asked her to wait for him until he knocked off duty. The boyfriend allegedly promised to give the girl US$3 for bus fare to Chitungwiza.
They left town at around 8pm and went to his friend’s house in Sunningdale.
The two allegedly bought some alcohol – Zed and an orange drink. She allegedly told Zhemi that she had to go home but he refused to unlock the door for her.
The State had also alleged that Zhemi forced the girl to drink the alcohol before they became intimate.
