A MANHUNT has been launched for two gangs of suspected armed robbers who recently raided a Harare security company where they stole US$23 000 and five guns and a Esigodini family where they snatched US$43 000 in cash.
This comes as the number of cases where robbers are targeting companies and individuals keeping large amounts of cash are on the increase.
In the Esigodini attack, robbers raided a house where they stole US$45 000 cash before shooting one of the occupants in the chest.
In Harare, a gang of robbers raided a security company along Lynnington Road in Strathaven, Harare, before stealing over US$23 000, five guns, seven pepper sprays and seven pairs of handcuffs.
The two gangs are still at large.
National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the police were appealing for information which may assist in the investigation of the robbery at a house in Habane Township, Esigodini, on Saturday at around 6.30pm.
“Two unknown suspects who were armed with two pistols pounced on the house and stole US$45 000 cash. During the incident, one occupant was shot on the chest and is currently receiving medical attention at a hospital in Bulawayo,” he said.
Police are appealing to anyone with information that might assist in the investigations to contact any nearest police station.
