TWO Chitungwiza men will spend the next 17 months in prison for housebreaking and stealing a 32-inch plasma television and a cellphone valued at US$640.Thomas Mukai (21) and his friend Knowledge Matsuku (24) both of Unit L Chitungwiza pleaded guilty to unlawful entry and theft charges.
They appeared before Chitungwiza magistrate Mr Kudakwashe Jarabini who slapped them each with a two-year prison term.
Mr Jarabini suspended five months of their sentence on condition of good behaviour.
Another month was suspended on condition they restitute Knowledge Mushavatu of US$40.
The State, led by Mr Edmond Ndambakuwa proved that on August 6 and at around 10pm, Mushavatu locked his house and retired to bed.
During the same night, the court heard that Mukai and Matsuku proceeded to Mushavatu’s house.
Upon arrival, they forced open the door to his dining room where they stole a 32-inch Sony Bravia plasma television and a Nokia cellphone.
However, the pair ran out of luck on August 23 after police received a tip off that they were seen carrying the loot.
This led to their arrest and were led to their respective homes where a search was conducted leading to the recovery of the television in Matsuku’s room.
