TWO women from Bulawayo have been remanded in custody on allegations of masterminding and facilitating armed robberies between September and October this year.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), the suspects, Sekai Vumbunu (45) and Florence Chisiri (33), appeared before the Bulawayo Magistrates Court facing two counts of armed robbery.

Prosecutors allege that in September 2025, the duo conspired with accomplices identified as Mvelasi, Lewis Nkomo, Themba, Nekimiya Dladla, and Solomon Dube to raid Nkolozi Bureau De Change.

Armed with pistols, the gang allegedly stormed the forex outlet and made off with US$16 668, ZAR151 800, a Defence pistol and a DVR recorder.

In another incident the following month, the pair and their accomplices reportedly targeted forex dealer Edmore Vundla, robbing him of US$35 000 near Batista Shop along Leopold Takawira Street in Bulawayo.

Another victim, identified only as Mathuthu, was also robbed of US$1 000 during the same attack.

The robbers allegedly fled in a grey Toyota Fortuner and a purple Toyota Vitz — both reportedly hired by Chisiri to facilitate the crimes.

Police later recovered the Toyota Fortuner from one of the accomplices, Solomon Dube, who is believed to have participated in both robberies.

The total loss arising from the robberies is estimated at US$36 000 and ZAR211 800, with no items recovered so far.

Investigations indicate that other suspects remain at large, while Vumbunu and Chisiri have been remanded in custody pending further investigations.
