The Harare City Council, in partnership with the Environmental Management Agency (EMA) and the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), on Wednesday arrested 20 people for littering in the central business district as authorities intensify efforts to enforce environmental regulations.

City of Harare acting principal communications officer Ms Mercy Makuvatsine said four of the offenders were ordered to clean designated areas of the city as part of corrective measures.

She said the operation forms part of a broader campaign to promote cleanliness and curb littering in the capital.

“Council, EMA and ZRP remain committed to maintaining a clean, safe and healthy environment and urge all residents and visitors to dispose of waste responsibly and uphold cleanliness at all times,” she said.

Ms Makuvatsine warned that authorities will continue to take action against offenders.

“The public is advised that anyone found littering will face arrest and prosecution in accordance with the law,” she said.
