20 schools clash in Rusape

Watermark Private School plays host to over 20 schools in volleyball, netball and soccer and several other disciplines to be unveiled during the tournament.
The competition will see a host of both urban-based schools and those from the rural areas vying for the top prize which will be presented to the outstanding performer.

Watermark Private School sports director Mr Barnabas Nemaire had this to say:
“We are expecting to host all big schools that you may think of.

“There is going to be lots of fun-filled activities for the kids and we hope this tournament will be beneficial to all the parties concerned – the students and the schools.
“The idea for tournaments of this kind is to give all school-going students a rare sporting platform and to inspire them if they decide to take up sport as a career in the future.”

This time around, the tournament to embraces colleges and all rural schools who in the past felt they were being left out.
Watermark Private School, Allan Wilson, Herentals College, Prince Edward, Trust Academy, Kuwadzana High 2, Mufakose High 2 and Goromonzi High School are among the top schools expected to take the part during the competition.

Hosts Watermark are eyeing for a third consecutive leading role in the ball games competitions.
The little known Rusape private school has been competitive in all the previous competitions and came second behind Kutama College last month in the Visitation Makumbi tournament and the St Paul’s Musanhi competitions held last Saturday.

Quite a number of accolades are going to be given away to the outstanding participants.
Outstanding soccer and netball playing schools are likely to get big prizes and a soccer kit from local banks.

Watermark’s Godknows “Ngwidzo” Saungweme (19), who voted outstanding goalie of the tournament, promised another fine run this time around.
“I am going to deliver my best performance for my school. We are doing very well and this is going to be our breakthrough as we want to utilise these competitions to build a strong team,” he said.

The competition is being sponsored by Barclays Bank, ZB Bank, SPAR Zimbabwe, Teecherz Furnishers, Beta Balls, Nyaradzo Funeral Service and Distunguitive Furnishers in Mutare among others.

Rusape is the place to be on July 20 as Eastern Highlands town comes to life with a feast of soccer, netball and volleyball.
It is not only the field of play that is going to be glittering, but rather the mood and the spirit of sportsmanship is just something to marvel at.
