About 20 Zimbabwean students are scheduled to leave for the Netherlands this week after receiving scholarships to study in the European country. The scholarships were awarded by Dutch Foreign Affairs Ministry through its Netherlands Fellowship Programmes.
Students will be taking Masters Degree programmes and short courses. Briefing the students in Harare recently, Dutch Ambassador to Zimbabwe Gera Sneller, urged them not to forget their home countries after their studies.
“When I look at the studies that all of you are going to pursue, I can tell that you are people who are willing to go and learn so that you can come back and develop your country,” she said. “Zimbabwe has always been successful in the selection due to the high literary level in the country and looking at the citizens, I can tell that the future for nation is bright.”
This brings to 60, the number of Zimbabweans awarded scholarships in the Netherlands this year.
The students went through an intensive selection process that was based on motivation, qualification and expertise. Focus was centred on key development areas such as agriculture, land and water resources management, food security and climate change governance.
