PRESIDENT Mugabe says elections will be held early next year and slammed Copac for delaying drafting a new constitution. He said it appeared those managing the constitution-making process were buying time to line their pockets with allowances.
Addressing the Zanu-PF National Consultative Assembly at the party’s headquarters in Harare yesterday, President Mugabe said it was important that the country conducted national elections as the inclusive Government was surviving “on stolen time.”
He said he was empowered by the country’s constitution to announce an election date and would do so at the appropriate time.
Zesa boss defends high power tariff scheme

INDUSTRY and other electricity users stand to benefit more by paying increased power tariffs than using generators when Zesa fails to supply electricity, the power utility’s chief executive officer, Engineer Josh Chifamba said yesterday.
He said if the approved tariff increases were blocked, the power utility would find it hard to provide electricity.
Eng Chifamba said half-year results for this year have shown that Zesa suffered a loss of over US$100 million.
This comes at a time when the Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries has threatened to take the Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company to court over the increase.
