Reconsider position on school fees
Most schools have indicated that they are increasing fees next year, a move that has been described as insensitive by parents. The parents are saying there is no justification for increasing fees given the fact that Government has provided textbooks for both primary and secondary schools and the parents are buying the remainder of the required stationery such as exercise books and pens.

Bring back the cane in schools

The official position is that no teacher is allowed to use the cane to administer corporal punishment on pupils in schools. It is policy in schools, no teacher can use corporal punishment as a corrective measure, no matter what offence the pupil would have committed. A teacher who dares use corporal punishment does not only get chastised by an array of statutes that regulate his/her conduct during the discharge of duty, but also risks condemnation from parents and child rights society.

Grade Seven pass rate improves

THE 2011 Grade Seven Zimbabwe Schools Examination Council (Zimsec) pass rate looks better than that of last year, Matabeleland’s three provincial education directors said.
In separate interviews on Wednesday, the provincial education directors (PED)s said although they had not yet analysed the Grade Seven results, there were indications that the quality of passes was higher this time around.
