‘Strategise for elections’

By Prosper Ndlovu
THE Zanu-PF 12th Annual National People’s Conference gives the party leadership an opportunity to refine strategies ahead of elections next year, President Mugabe has said.
In his foreword in the Central Committee Report tabled at the conference on Thursday, President Mugabe said this year’s conference was crucial as it was the last ahead of the polls slated for March next year.

“It is this dimension linking this conference to crucial elections which upgrades it to a virtual congress. Here we have an opportunity to review and refine our overall strategy for the elections, principally our party policy and programme on indigenisation and economic empowerment whose full implementation across the 14 key sectors of our national economy is set to transform the livelihoods of our people in ways never seen before since our hard won independence,” said President Mugabe.

“Indeed this policy and its process of implementation should inform our party’s 2012 election manifesto.”

BCC workers go on strike over unpaid salaries

Chronicle Reporters
HUNDREDS of Bulawayo City Council workers yesterday went on strike and vowed not to return to work until they have been paid their November salaries and bonuses.
Representatives of the workers’ committee held a six-hour long meeting, which yielded nothing as their bosses only promised to pay them next week on Thursday.

This is despite initial claims by the council officials in a statement signed by the Town Clerk Mr Middleton Nyoni last month and given to all workers, that workers would get their salaries yesterday.
Workers in Grades 1 to 3, the lowest grades in the council, went to the banks in anticipation of getting their salaries only to be told by bank officials that there was no money from the council.
In anger, the workers then went and sat outside the Revenue Hall while others gathered at housing offices in different suburbs until they dispersed at about 4.30pm.

When a Chronicle news screw visited the Revenue Hall between Leopold Takawira and 8th Avenue, hundreds of disgruntled workers were milling around waiting to be briefed by their employer.
Some even threatened to beat this reporter and confiscate the camera.

“We are tired of you people always coming here to ask us questions, what we want is our money. Wena sisi thatha okuyicamera kwakho uhambe ngoba singakutshaya khathesi,” said one worker.
Another worker said they were tired of borrowing money because the city council always paid them late.
“It is disheartening to note that every time payday draws closer, the council always calls a meeting to give excuses.

Jabulani Sibanda lashes out at dishonest party members

By Prosper Ndlovu
SOME Zanu-PF members are dishonest towards the party and such behaviour is against the values and principles of the revolutionary organisation,

war veterans chairman Cde Jabulani Sibanda said yesterday.
Delivering his solidarity message during the ongoing Zanu-PF 12th Annual National People’s Conference at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) grounds in Bulawayo yesterday, Cde Sibanda said Zanu-PF was a party founded on revolutionary principles, but it was disappointing to note that within its ranks there were members who were double dealing.
He said some party leaders were counter-revolutionaries and accused them of fuelling divisions within the party in a bid to gain political mileage.

“This is what kills our party,” said Cde Sibanda.
“As members of the party, we can differ in levels of education but we must never differ in the ideology of the party.
“The seed of revolution is ripening and people should understand the difference between policies of Zanu-PF and other parties.
