Economic empowerment. . . it’s not a political gimmick says President
By Patrick Chitumba in Victoria Falls
PEOPLE who think that the Government’s policy on indigenisation and empowerment is a political gimmick must be mentally examined, President Mugabe has said.
Addressing delegates attending the Zimbabwe Local Government Association’s second biennial annual conference that was being held at Elephant Hills Resort Hotel in Victoria Falls on Saturday, President Mugabe said the indigenisation and economic empowerment of the people was a very serious matter. He added that it would take a fool to even suggest that the exercise was a political gimmick.

Council slammed over proposed budget
Chronicle Reporter
A civic group, National Association of Non Governmental Organisations (NANGO) has formally opposed Bulawayo City Council’s proposed 2012 budget saying it failed to address housing problems dogging the city.
In October, BCC unveiled a $122 million budget for next year, which will see water, sewerage and refuse removal charges as well as property tax going up.
NANGO western region board secretary Mr Anglistone Sibanda in his submission paper to BCC last week, blasted the local authority for not being pro-poor.
He said the budget did not address the pertinent issues affecting the residents.
“The residents feel that the budget is not addressing the housing challenges. Housing is a right and the council budget should have adequate allocations for housing development,” said Mr Sibanda.
He said this would help curb the ever increasing need for housing backlog.

Zanu-PF conference to lay groundwork polls

has said their 12th Annual National People’s Conference, which kicks off in Bulawayo on Thursday, will lay groundwork for the party’s preparations for next year’s harmonised elections.
In an interview yesterday, Cde Moyo said, the conference was a non-elective one and was aimed at gearing up for the forthcoming elections.
“I have to say this is a defining conference bearing in mind the fact that this is the last major meeting before the holding of elections,” said Cde Moyo.
He said the conference would give the party an opportunity to review its performance since the last conference in Mutare last year.
Cde Moyo said during the conference they would look at the state of the party in a bid to see if it is has clear polices and programmes that are people centred.
“This conference will give us introspection in terms of how the party has performed since last year. It is also going to help us review of our strengths and our shortcomings,” said Cde Moyo.
