Take hunting seriously Zimbabweans urged

ZIMBABWEANS have been urged to take the hunting industry seriously as it is one of the major tourist attractions.
Speaking at the Safari Operators Association of Zimbabwe (SOAZ) 6th annual general meeting held in Bulawayo last week, a representative of the African Hunting Gazette of South Africa, Mr Richard Lendrum, said there was need to support hunting in Africa.
Rand tracks softer euro
Johannesburg — The rand weakened against the greenback in midday trade yesterday, tracking the euro after S&P’s decision to put 15 of the 17 eurozone countries on a negative ratings watch.
A local dealer noted that a sustained push above R8.10/$ would lead to further rand weakness. However he added that the local unit had settled into a range.
“We are still very much headline driven,” he said.

Pretoria — Cricket SA (CSA) chief executive Gerald Majola said fairness was relative with regard to the distribution of bonuses after the successful hosting of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2009.
Majola was speaking after he was questioned on his understanding of fairness when he and Don McIntosh, the Indian Premier League tournament director, received more than two-thirds of the pool of money meant for bonuses.
Banyana eye CAF award
Johannesburg — Banyana Banyana and striker Nompumelelo Nyandeni have both been nominated for the African Football Confederation (CAF) awards.
The South African Senior Women’s National Team has been nominated for the African Women’s National Team of the Year category, while Nyandeni will vie for the African Women’s Footballer of the Year.
The awards are scheduled for 22 December in Ghana.
Brazil 2014 will have goal-line technology
Fifa president Sepp Blatter has revealed that goal-line technology will be introduced for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
The 75-year-old ignored repeated calls for technology to be brought in following the controversy at last year’s World Cup in South Africa, when England midfielder Frank Lampard saw an effort ruled out against Germany despite the ball having clearly crossed the line.
Missiles ‘May protect London 2012 games’
British Defence Secretary Philip Hammond has told MPs that ground-to-air missiles will be deployed to protect the 2012 Olympic Games in London if deemed operationally necessary.
He was asked to confirm this by the former defence secretary Liam Fox.
