THERE has been an increase in con artists masquerading as land developers or working for co-operatives in cities to defraud unsuspecting home seekers.
The director of the Department of Physical Planning Mrs Ethel Mlalazi said a lot of home seekers continued to be fleeced despite being warned of the proliferation of bogus co-operatives and land developers.
She said in Harare, the situation was particularly worse at Caledonia Farm near Mabvuku and in Hatcliffe.
Caledonia Farm was allocated by Government to over 40 housing co-operatives for housing development to ease housing demand in Harare.
Many people have lost millions of dollars to unregistered land developers that are selling non-existent stands.
