2012 census mapping starts

boundaries for areas to be covered in the 2012 national population census.
Zimstat acting director-general Mr Moffat Nyoni told New Ziana the countrywide programme would be completed this year.
“Census mapping is a very important exercise because it ensures that every area is covered. We cannot rely on information gathered in the previous population census because some dwellings will have been moved and some extended,” said Mr Nyoni.
He said the mapping would assist enumerators to easily identify households during the population count.
“The mapping exercise draws boundaries concerning enumeration areas,” he said.
This is the fourth population census that Zimbabwe has undertaken since the country’s independence in 1980.
The first one was held in 1982 and two others were subsequently conducted at ten year intervals.
The last census in 2002 put Zimbabwe’s population at 14 million. – New Ziana.
