‘No foul play in Mujuru death’

There was no foul play in the death of national hero Retired General Solomon Mujuru, an inquest into the tragedy has concluded.
Gen Mujuru died in an inferno at his Beatrice farmhouse in August last year.
Fire extinguishers to be mandatory on vehicles

ALL vehicles should have a fire extinguisher and two red reflective triangles, Police National Traffic Section has said.
Spokesperson Inspector Tigere Chigome said motorists should also have a wheel spanner, jack and a spare wheel.
Fate of suspended Dakamela to be resolved by Bulawayo Province: Politburo
THE Zanu-PF Politburo yesterday resolved that the fate of suspended Bulawayo provincial chairman, Cde Isaac Dakamela, be solved by his province.
In an interview last night after a Politburo meeting in Harare, the party’s national Secretary for Information and Publicity, Cde Rugare Gumbo, said the matter was referred back to the province and would be handled by the national chairman, Cde Simon Khaya Moyo, and political commissar, Cde Webster Shamu.
“It was raised at the Politburo meeting, but was not discussed at length. The issue is being handled by the national chairman and national political commissar and the resolution was that it be solved by the provincial leadership itself,” said Cde Gumbo without elaborating.
The party’s Provincial Coordinating Committee (PCC) suspended Cde Dakamela on Sunday after passing a vote of no confidence in him at a meeting attended by about 100 members, 14 of them from the Central Committee.
Residents besiege school: Headmistress accused of causing child’s death

RESIDENTS from Bulawayo’s Njube suburb yesterday besieged Mtshede Primary School baying for the blood of the school’s headmistress for allegedly sending home a Grade One pupil to collect R5 before the girl was fatally struck by a commuter omnibus.
Riot police had to be called to restore order at the school as parents thronged the institution from all angles calling for the immediate dismissal of the headmistress, a Mrs S Moyo, the pupil’s teacher and the School Development Committee (SDC) chairperson.
A number of teachers reportedly fled from the school and lessons for the day had to be called off as parents bayed for the headmistress’ blood.
It is reported that the pupil, Nothando Ncube (8), was sent home to collect money for civvies day as she had gone to school without the required money.
On her way back to school at about 8am, Nothando was hit by a commuter omnibus along Benjamin Burombo Road and died on the spot.
When a Chronicle news crew visited the incident yesterday morning, scores of angry parents were outside the school gate trying to push their way in so that they could mete instant justice to the headmistress.
Widow sues motorist over husband’s death

THE widow of the man whose foot was found near the United Bulawayo Hospitals is suing the driver of the vehicle that allegedly killed her husband for $2 million.
Mrs Junior Ranganai (26), the wife of the owner of the foot, Mr Stephen Ranganai (52), has sought legal assistance to advance her case.
She is seeking a court order to compel Ranganai’s children to release documents which she says are preventing her from accessing her husband’s pension and other terminal benefits.
Mrs Ranganai is also seeking another order for Zesa, her husband’s employer, to release information about his terminal benefits and stop sending her electricity bills, which she says they should not be sending because her husband, by virtue of being the power utility’s employee, was exempted from paying for the power.
Mr Ranganai, a messenger at Zesa, was allegedly killed in a hit and run accident by Mr Ian Ndumiso Mkhaliphe on 29 January. He was cycling from work.
He was buried at his rural home in Chivi without the left foot on 31 January.
