More tollgates to be erected

THREE new tolling points will soon be set up on the highway from Plumtree to Mutare, with two between Bulawayo and Harare, bringing to nine the number of tolling points on the highway.
The Zimbabwe National Roads Administration (Zinara) will install state-of-the-art toll plazas, which look like those found along highways in neighbouring South Africa, on the 820 kilometres of highway that is being rehabilitated and upgraded to international standards.
The plazas would all be erected on the highway within the next three years, with the first one set to be operational by the end of September.

Highway rehab to begin after Easter

THE actual work on the rehabilitation and upgrading of the 820 kilometre stretch of the highway from Plumtree to Mutare will start after the Easter Holidays, following the completion of tests to determine the scope of works.
At least six types of tests were done to determine the structural integrity, residual and tensile strength of the entire stretch.
The road is being rehabilitated under a partnership between Zimbabwe National Road Administration (Zinara) and South Africa-based internationally renowned road construction experts, Group Five.
