Seed houses urged to meet over small grain imports
Harare BureauGOVERNMENT has called on seed houses to urgently meet over importing small grain seeds and engage A1 and A2 farmers to produce small grain seeds and pulses including sweet potatoes.
SA firms eye Bulawayo

THE South African Government is eager to help resuscitate the country’s industries especially in Bulawayo, a minister said yesterday.
Speaking at an Investment and Trade Initiative seminar organised by the Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce (ZNCC) at a Bulawayo hotel yesterday, South Africa’s Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Ms Elizabeth Thabethe, urged businesspeople in Bulawayo to grab the opportunities brought about by her country and establish trade relations.
Deputy Minister Thabethe said her country had benefited from bilateral trade relationship with Zimbabwe in previous years with turnover amounting to about 17,5 billion rand last year.
She said South Africa was committed to establishing trade and investment partnerships with businesses in Zimbabwe to help the sector grow.
“South Africa and Zimbabwe have a long standing relationship, both economically and politically dating back to the years preceding South Africa’s democracy. We fondly remember the solidarity and unwavering support we received from the people of Zimbabwe and our victory against the forces of oppression saw the advancement of social equity gaining ground and the majority benefiting from our efforts of correcting the historical injustices,” said Deputy Minister Thabethe.
700 families resettled in forestry area
Midlands Bureau ChiefTHE Government has formally resettled 700 families in Gokwe South’s Mapfungautsi Forestry area.
The families had been living in the area illegally.

Dimaf not yet legally operational
Harare — The Distressed Industries and Marginalised Areas Fund (Dimaf) is not yet legally operational as the Government has not yet put in its $20 million contribution.The $40 million fund, which was launched last year in partnership with Old Mutual with CABS being the administrator, was intended to revive ailing industries.
CABS managing director Kevin Terry told the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Industry and Commerce on Tuesday that without Government’s contribution there was effectively no fund to talk about.
RioZim approves capital raising initiative
Business ReporterRIOZIM shareholders have approved the company’s capital raising initiative to secure more than $56 million capital in order to retire debt and recapitalise operations.
The agreement was reached during the firm’s Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) held on Friday last week.
