Call to intensify rural development

THERE is need to intensify development in rural areas through co-operatives and industrialisation since the areas can immensely contribute to the country’s Gross Domestic Product, a Cabinet Minister has said.
Addressing hundreds of villagers during the commissioning of 122 various projects valued at US$37 million in Mudzi on

Thursday, Minister of State in Vice President Joice Mujuru’s office Sylvester Nguni described rural areas as the “bedrock” of Zimbabwe’s development.

The projects that are being carried out in Mudzi North, West and South constituencies are set to uplift the livelihoods of thousands of villagers in the drought-prone area.
Community Trust Development Technology in collaboration with other non-governmental organisation is spearheading the projects, which include an irrigation scheme, dip tanks, dams construction and rehabilitation, nutrition gardens and cattle sales pens.

Said Minister Nguni: “The assets I am handing over to you are a testimony that rural communities can be a major contributor to the national economy.
“Such developmental projects in rural areas have to be intensified as we continue fighting the illegal

Security services ready to defend Zimbabwe: Minister

Herald Reporter
The country’s security and intelligence services are ready to defend it from external aggression, Minister of State Security in the President’s Office Sydney Sekeramayi has said.

Speaking at the inaugural graduation of 31 students from the Robert Gabriel Mugabe School of Intelligence in Harare yesterday, Minister Sekeramayi said the country’s sovereignty was once again under threat from the former colonisers.
The 31 graduates attained Diplomas in Intelligence and Security Studies.
“Closer at home, all are aware that Zimbabwe is under siege. The West led by Britain and the United States are unrelentingly continuing to pursue illegal regime change,” said Minister Sekeramayi.

“I am glad to point out that our security and intelligence services are equally unrelenting in their endeavour to counter these forces in defence of our independence and national sovereignty.”
Minister Sekeramayi said for the intelligence service to effectively counter external threats, it required reliable and factual information.
He said the State needed to receive information on threats earlier enough to launch appropriate counter actions.

Housing stands for MPs impracticable

Zimbabwe’s Parliamentarians have certainly embraced the spirit of unity. While they might squabble over things like economic policy, political ideologies and even who would make the best President, they quickly form a solid and united front when it comes to “important” things like how many free cars they should have, their pay, their allowances and now their

South Africa: The gale of a reverse wind of change

I thought they were thick-skinned. I thought they were courageous. Last week my instalment made a passing reference to the health status of those in the MDC-T aspiring for presidency. No name was mentioned, not a single one. Boy, what a panicky response! I had touched a raw nerve, in the process exposing deep-seated health-anxieties within the MDC-T hierarchy. I liked a jibe from a contributor on one of the websites: atya chatikwatara ndeane chiturikwa. Translated it means he who fears a thud is one with a poorly hung secret!
