MORE than half of the children living with HIV and Aids are failing to access anti-retroviral drugs despite the pediatric formulations being available, senior health officials have said.

About 150 000 children between the ages of 0 and 14 years are HIV-positive and of these, nearly 89 000 who are in need of the drugs are failing to access them.
National Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission and Pediatric HIV Care and Treatment Co-ordinator in the Ministry of Health and Child Welfare Dr Angela Mushavi said only 45 percent of HIV-positive children in need of the drugs were on ARVs.

Legislators lose hope on CDF

MEMBERS of Parliament have lost hope of getting this year’s US$50 000 Constituency Development Funds.
In separate interviews yesterday, the MPs said they were supposed to have received half of the amount by this month.
They said it was doubtful that the money will be disbursed anytime soon as Finance Minister Tendai Biti always tells them that there is no money.
“None of us has received anything from Treasury. We last received money for 2010 and did not get anything for 2011,” said Cde Clifford Sibanda, the MP for Bubi.

NO more new mining licences will be granted to foreigners as Government intensifies the Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment policy, President Mugabe has said.
The President urged geologists and mining engineers to form consortiums to exploit mineral resources.

He said this while addressing a Zanu-PF Women’s League seminar in Darwendale where they were meeting to formulate a plan of action for 2012 and evaluate their activities.
The Women’s League, through its leadership, had raised several grievances to the Party’s First Secretary.
