Politics: Pasting labels, past logic
I am happy that lately, the management team for Copac has been making tremendous “progress” at their level. But the team is the pre-penultimate, the penultimate being the principals, the ultimate being the people who will pass the final verdict through the referendum. It remains to be seen whether or not that progress which the management committee has made stands to wash with the principals. Only then can we then say we are close to wrapping up this vexatious matter about constitution-making.
By-election case: Court reserves judgment

THE Supreme Court yesterday reserved judgment in the case in which President Mugabe is challenging the decision by the High Court in Bulawayo directing him to gazette a date for by-elections in three vacant House of Assembly constituencies.
Abednico Bhebhe (Nkayi South), Njabuliso Mguni (Bulilima) and Norman Mpofu (Lupane East) were dismissed from the MDC.
The trio subsequently lost their parliamentary positions. However, last year they obtained a High Court order compelling President Mugabe to cause by-elections.
The full bench of the Supreme Court led by Chief Justice Godfrey Chidyausiku reserved ruling on the case after hearing arguments on the merits.
The former legislators instituted the court action after declaring their interest to contest in the constituencies as independent candidates.
Advocate Ray Goba told the court that Justice Nicholas Ndou misdirected himself and should have considered circumstances that hindered the President from ordering elections in the three constituencies.
