Equip pupils with practical skills: President

Bulawayo Bureau
PRESIDENT Mugabe yesterday challenged schools to adopt a production system in their curriculum to equip pupils with practical skills to produce self-reliant youths.
Addressing thousands of people at the joint launch of the Presidential High Schools e-learning programme for the country’s southern region and the technologically advanced Landa John Nkomo High School at Manqe in Tsholotsho District, President Mugabe said the academically-inclined education system was a disadvantage to the country.
He said the launch of the e-learning programme was a way of creating self-reliance among the youths and of equipping the girl child with survival skills that would prevent exploitation.

Unlicensed cars to be impounded

Herald Reporters
Motorists not displaying new licence discs will have their vehicles impounded by the police with immediate effect. The police are working with the Zimbabwe Road Administration Authority on a mechanism that provides for the impounding of the vehicles.
This comes after 317 motorists were arrested in less than six hours at three roadblocks mounted on some major roads this week for failure to licence their vehicles.
The spot check roadblocks were being used to determine the compliance of motorists with the new system.
The impounding of vehicles comes amid reports that only 364 000 vehicles had been licenced by the end of the deadline on June 30 out of an estimated 800 000 cars in the country.
