ZAMBIAN soccer legend Kalusha Bwalya has become the latest to be hit by an intricate loan scam run by suspected Zimbabwean lenders where people put their properties on the line for a once-off cash payment.
The deal calls for the surrendering of immovable property, in this case, title deeds for cash.
The same scam has seen prominent people, including Government ministers, losing their properties to the loan sharks.
A Lusaka High Court Judge Mr Nigel Mutuna ruled against Bwalya who brought Zimbabwean businessman Chamunorwa Nyarungwe Haruperi to court contesting the terms under which he borrowed US$26 250 in 2008.
The Football Association of Zambia president Bwalya has since lost a house in Lusaka’s posh Woodlands area after the High Court dismissed his case against Haruperi.
The mansion is located at stand 921 Woodlands — one of Lusaka’s upmarket suburbs.
Zambian sources have linked Haruperi to self-exiled businessman Frank Buyanga who is on an Interpol wanted list for his deals in property-for-cash deals.
VP Mujuru lays the law

ACTING President Joice Mujuru yesterday said no individual has the right to impose candidates in Zanu-PF structures as such powers rest with the people.
Addressing party supporters at a field day in Chegutu East constituency, Cde Mujuru said Zanu-PF is built from the grassroots and not the other way round.
She said President Mugabe, who is the Zanu-PF First Secretary and President, was shocked at the manner district co-ordinating committee elections were conducted.
“VaMugabe vanoshamisika kuti kwavakuumbwa district reparty pasina mabranch nama cell . . . handizvo zvatinotarisira mumusangano izvozvo,” she said, to wild applause from Zanu-PF supporters.
She added: “Musangano unotarisira kuti kana tauruka tiri pacell hazvisi zvokuti uyu ndinomuda, uyu handimude. Ndiwe ani anoti nhingi ndinomuda, nhingi handimude? Kana tirimumusangano gwara remusangano ndiro rinotibatanidza.”
The Zanu-PF Second Secretary said time had come for party officials to stop the imposition of candidates as such behaviour destroys the party.
She also took a swipe at some party officials who do not tell President Mugabe the truth on some developments in the party.
PM Tsvangirai raps Mutambara

PRIME Minister Morgan Tsvangirai yesterday warned his deputy Arthur Mutambara that he risks treason charges for referring to him as “Commander-In-Chief”.
Mutambara had also referred to the PM as “co-ordinator in chief” at a function to launch a water conservation programme in Harare’s Budiriro suburb.
PM Tsvangirai said there was only one Commander-In-Chief in Zimbabwe, who is President Mugabe.
“There is only one Commander-In-Chief in terms of the law in Zimbabwe — His Excellency President Robert Mugabe,” he said. “You risk being charged of treason.”
PM Tsvangirai said it was not proper for DPM Mutambara to transfer President Mugabe’s title to him.
The audience was left in stitches when PM Tsvangirai said DPM Mutambara has a tendency to dramatise issues.
This was after DPM Mutambara showered him with praises by referring to him as Policy Co-ordinator-In-Chief and Commander-In-Chief.
Introducing the PM to the audience, DPM Mutambara said the three things that ensured development were the initiation and formulation of policies which “talk to each other”.
