Econet customer base grows

THE country’s largest mobile phone network by subscribers, Econet, says its customer base now exceeds seven million while the network could accommodate up to 8,5 million subscribers.
Council fined for polluting river

THE Masvingo City Council was on Monday fined $400 by a local magistrate when it was found guilty of discharging raw sewage into Shakashe River.
In addition to the fine, the local authority was ordered to pay $8 407 on or before 31 October to the Environmental Management Agency for the costs of the removal of the waste or other pollutants discharged.

Govt moves in to save Mat South livestock

THE Government in conjunction with its partners has availed 4 600 tonnes of stockfeed to the Matabeleland South Province under the livestock survival scheme.
In an interview on the sidelines of the provincial agriculture sub-committee meeting in Gwanda Town on Monday, the provincial agricultural extension officer, Mr Bernard Sibanda, said the move was aimed at saving livestock from starvation.
“The Government has partnered with key stakeholders and very soon 4 600 tonnes of stockfeed will be availed to cattle farmers in Matabeleland South under the livestock survival scheme. Farmers will access the stockfeed through a revolving fund and we are going to cover all the districts,” he said.
