A few weeks ago the 2013 Idols SA winner’s album, Mr Serious, reached gold status – and it’s selling so fast, it’s only a matter of time when Musa will be celebrating his platinum status.

He has most of Mzansi singing along to his latest single, Mthande. The song was produced by none other than the legendary producer Robbie Malinga, who is also featured on it.

Their voices fuse well, but Musa told SunBuzz it wasn’t easy for him to get Robbie to sing with him.

“He told me he only sings with people who can sing,” he laughed.

“He also said he was done being featured on other people’s songs. So I begged him to do this one with me. After I sang my vocals I left him in the studio.

“When I came back I found him done with his part of the song. It was a big surprise for me, but I was so excited,” Musa said.

Musa, who is originally from Middelburg, in Mpumalanga, said he did not expect the single to do well so soon.

“I’d planned to drop the single in April and then promote it to see it gain popularity much later in the year. It exceeded all expectations and has become bigger than me and the album. I owe the album’s success to that song,” he said.

He said the album is all about love.

“It’s authentic. It’s an album that allowed me to breathe. I like to describe Mr Serious as a colourful rainbow that has many layers to it,” he said.

Unlike previous Idols winners who have since faded, Musa is proving he is here to stay.
