adminTafadzwa Muzeza of New Tafara was convicted on his own plea of guilty when he appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Kudakwashe Jarabini.
Muzeza’s mother is a sister to the girl’s father. Mr Jarabini had initially sentenced Muzeza to 18 months in prison but conditionally suspended six months. In passing judgment, Mr Jarabini said the nature of the relationship was highly degrading morally in a “brother-sister relationship.” Muzeza was facing two separate charges of having a sexual relationship in a prohibited degree of relationship and having a sexual relationship with a minor. He pleaded guilty on both counts. Circumstances are that from January this year, Muzeza fell in love with his cousin.
The girl’s father adopted Muzeza after the death of his mother and he was living with the girl’s family. Sometime in January when the parents of the girl were away, the two went to Muzeza’s bedroom were they reportedly taught each other some “sex lessons.” The two, “lovers” later agreed to become intimate. Since January on several occasions the pair would take advantage of the parents’ absence or when they were fast asleep to sneak into Muzeza’s bedroom to be intimate.
The matter came to light in July when the girl’s father woke up around 5 am and found out that his daughter who is in Form Three had already left for school. The father became suspicious and he went to Muzeza’s bedroom and found the two being intimate.
The girl was later quizzed by her mother and she revealed her love adventures with her cousin.
A report was made to the police station leading to Muzeza’s arrest.
