TWENTY-two people, some of them executives from local authorities in Matabeleland North and South, have applied for the Victoria Falls Town Clerk post with seven being shortlisted for interviews.
A massive 25 also applied for the post of town treasurer and six have been short-listed.
Victoria Falls Municipality is hunting for a replacement for outgoing Town Clerk Mr Christopher Dube, who joins the Bulawayo City Council on October 1 in the same capacity.
Victoria Falls Mayor Councillor Sifiso Mpofu confirmed that 22 people were interviewed for the Town Clerk’s post and seven were shortlisted.
“Yes it’s true the selection has been done where a few have been shortlisted and we are waiting for the date for interviews,” said Cllr Mpofu.
The Chronicle had access to the list of applicants and picked notable names like former Tsholotsho Rural District Council chief executive officer Mr Ronnie Dube and Hwange Colliery Company Finance manager Mr Gift Sibanda who earlier lost the Bulawayo Town Clerk job to Mr Dube.
Also on the list are Plumtree Town Council secretary Mr Dumezweni Davis Luthe, Nkayi chief executive officer Mr Zimbabwe Ndlovu, Hwange Local Board secretary Mr Ndumiso Mdlalose as well as Victoria Falls Housing and Community Services Director Mr Lot Siatimbula.
Those who have been shortlisted for the Town Clerk’s post are Mr Dube, Mr Ndlovu, Mr Luthe, Mr Mdlalose, Mr Bongani Ngwenya, Mr Stanford Ndlovu and Mr Possent Sibelo.
The council’s General Purpose Committee (GPC), the Provincial Administrator Ms Latiso Dlamini, Hwange District Administrator Miss Nkanyiso Jubane and an official from the Public Service Commission sat on the selection panel.
A full council meeting last month recommended that the GPC conducts the interviews.
Yesterday, Cllr Mpofu said the municipality couldn’t do the whole process alone.
“We can’t do it alone and certainly we have to include Government,” the Mayor briefly said on the PA and DA inclusion on the interview panel.
The DA Miss Jubane couldn’t comment on the issue while the PA Ms Dlamini’s was not reachable.
Meanwhile, those shortlisted for the treasurer’s post are deputy town treasurer Mr Neville Ndlovu, Victoria Falls accountant Mr Lazarus Mudenda, Ms Tatjenama Nleya, who is also a council employee, Mr Shepherd Tshuma, Mr Bekithemba Mlotshwa and Mr Innocent Tshuma.
The municipality is hunting for a new treasurer who will replace the incumbent Mr Thembinkosi Khumalo who retires at the end of this year.
