A WOMAN who was involved in a fierce argument with her husband over why he had brought his friend to their home has been jailed for stabbing her husband leading to his death.
Trishy Ndlovu (24) recently appeared before High Court Judge Justice Evangelista Kabasa facing a culpable homicide charge.
She pleaded not guilty to the charge and said her husband Hillary Mugiyo (25) arrived home heavily drunk and they were involved in a fierce argument. Following that she said her husband reached for a kitchen knife and charged at her intending to stab her.
But the woman who was six months pregnant at the time wrestled the knife from him and it broke and stabbed him in self-defence.
She also said the deceased was aggressive towards her.
She told the court that at the time of committing the crime, her husband had secured a job in Nyamandlovu. He had bid farewell to her, surprisingly, he returned on the same day at around 23:30pm.
It was also learnt that in the following week, Mugiyo was supposed to return home to pay lobola for his wife.
She further revealed that they were renting one room in Nkulumane suburb and the argument erupted after he came with his friend to put up in their rented room.
However, the Judge found Ndlovu guilty and slapped her with a five-year jail sentence. However, two years were suspended on condition that she will not commit a similar offence within five years. Ndlovu will serve three years behind bars.
The court heard that on 6 December last year at around 2330 pm the accused and her younger sister had retired to bed when the deceased arrived home with his friend Tadiwanashe Chigatse.
The pair was drunk. Ndlovu questioned her husband why he brought his friend when he knew that they stayed in one room and an argument broke out.
The deceased picked up a kitchen knife and charged towards her intending to stab her but she wrestled it from him and it broke. She stabbed him in the neck and he screamed.
The landlady was alerted prompting her to dash to the scene and found him lying on the ground bleeding and muttered: “Gogo sengigwaziwe nguTrishy (Granny I have been stabbed by Trishy)” and died moments later.
