FROM next-door to next-cell . . .
Two Nkulumane men are facing the wrath of the law after allegedly breaking into a neighbour’s car and making off with just two reflectors and a paltry 20 bucks in cash.
Brighton Shawn Moyo and Bhekimpilo Moyo, both 21, were dragged before Western Commonage Magistrate Archie Wochiwunga, charged with theft. Their case has been remanded to 1 July.
According to prosecutor Tafara Dzimbanhete, the duo struck on June 14.
They allegedly went to Tawanda Hamadziripi’s house and shattered the window of his parked vehicle.
Once inside, they grabbed two white reflectors and US$20, thinking they had hit the jackpot.
But their luck ran out quickly. The complainant caught them in the act and the thieves had to make a run for it before they could be nabbed.
Despite fleeing the scene, their identities weren’t much of a mystery. The accused and the complainant are neighbours, making it easy for police to track them down.
The total value of the stolen items was just US$25. Nothing was recovered.
Now the Moyos are learning the hard way that even small-time crime can land you in big-time trouble.
Breaking into a car for two reflectors and pocket change has earned them a front-row seat in the courtroom and possibly a long stay behind bars.
Petty theft or not, justice doesn’t take kindly to window smashers with sticky fingers.
