BULAWAYO property development firm MSN Properties has unveiled a $2 million dollar low housing scheme project which is expected to be complete in the next two years. The project is expected to go a long way in reducing the city’s housing backlog.
MSN Properties group chief executive officer Mucha Nyamugama told Business Chronicle that the servicing of three areas meant to be developed into 3,000 housing units was in progress.
The company intends to develop low cost housing schemes in Nkosilathi located near Emganwini, Lovendale and Harrisvale which are meant to benefit those who are in need of accommodation.
“We have invested $2 million in servicing all the three thousand stands in the three sites and we expect the project to be complete in two years,” he said.
Lovendale Township would be developed in phases from one to five. Harrisvale will be a medium density suburb.
He said the company had commissioned two boreholes at each of the sites to assist with the provision of water for their clients.
“To support the project the company has managed to acquire state-of-the-art earth moving equipment to help in the servicing of stands,” said Nyamugama.
“At the moment we have acquired two graders which will be used in the servicing of these sites and we are expecting to receive the rollers soon.
“This is to ensure that there are no delays in the servicing of the sites.”
Nyamugama said the stands were available to everyone who needs them from corporates to individuals.
He urged local authorities to avail off site services to avoid inconveniences and delays in sewer and water connections.
According to the 2012 Zimbabwe National Statistical Agency Census report, close to 60 percent of Zimbabweans live in their own houses.
The city is battling to cover an ever increasing housing backlog of more than 100,000.
