Three people died while 13 others were injured when a vehicle they were travelling in veered off the road and overturned at the 15-kilometre peg along the Bindura-Shamva highway. Acting Mashonaland Central police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Petros Masikati confirmed the incident and identified the deceased persons as Tichaona Chimedza (20), Honest Magaya (24) and another man he only identified as Petsi.
“We received a report following a fatal accident which killed three people while injuring 13 other passengers.
“Our preliminary investigations revealed that the driver of the vehicle was speeding and failed to control the vehicle,” he said
It is alleged that on October 11 the vehicle, a Nissan UD which was being driven by Motion Zata (33) was carrying 16 passengers who were sitting on three tonnes of gold ore that was loaded on the trailer.
Upon reaching the 15-km peg it is reported that Zata failed to negotiate a curve resulting in the vehicle veering off the road before overturning killing three people on the spot.
The matter was reported at Bindura Traffic Police who attended the scene and ferried 13 injured passengers to Bindura Provincial Hospital where two of the seriously injured were transferred to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals.
The bodies of the three deceased people were taken to Bindura hospital mortuary for postmortem.
