3-Hour Endurance Race ready to take off

COMMITTING to the hardest track race in the country will make you physically fit, mentally strong and more resilient. What are you waiting for?

One of the organisers of the 3-Hour Endurance Race, Ian Gutherless, said preparations for the event that will be held at the Bulawayo Motorsport Park are at an advanced stage.

Pencilled in for December 7, the race is expected to attract drivers and riders from Canada, the UK and South Africa, who have confirmed their participation in the biggest event of the calendar in motorsport in the land.

Speaking to Zimpapers Sports Hub, Gutherless, said they were doing their final touches on and off the racing track for the event.

“It’s really coming together. The track is being prepared and it’s almost ready. Our sponsor for the 3-Hour Endurance is fuchs Silkolene and they were there last year.

“The defending champion of the 3-Hour Endurance Race is Harare driver Mano Zevgolis and I’m pretty sure he’ll be back to defend it this year.

“The 3-Hour Endurance Race runs in conjunction with the 1-Hour Endurance Race for the bikes and the defending champion in the bikes section is Graig Reed who is also from Harare and he’s also expected to come down to defend his title,” Gutherless said.

For the drivers entries, Gutherless said it’s hard to say at the moment “as they haven’t gone out to log in it but two weeks prior to the race I’ll give you the heads up”.

But the event normally attracts 30 to 38 vehicles and 20 odd bikes.

“We are hoping to have some guys from South Africa and we are also going to have a brothers duo with one coming from Canada and the one coming from the UK.

“They will be using a South African car. They’re both ex-Zimbabweans and it’s good for them to come home and play with us,” Gutherless said.

The bikes will take centre stage at 12:45pm to 1:45pm before the motorsport enthusiasts enjoy a Three Hour Endurance which will begin at 3pm until 6pm.

Now, some may ask what the 3-Hour Endurance Race is all about. Well, simply put — it’s like a last man standing match, the strongest man with the strongest car will last 3 hours and will take the trophy. Endurance racing is a form of motorsport meant to test the durability of the cars and the endurance of the drivers.

Teams therefore have to cover the most laps within the given time period.

Well, here we go again, as the poster is out and this is going to be an event not to be missed!

December 7 will see all the top motor racing drivers and bikers from Harare converging at Bulawayo Motorsport Park for the biggest event of the year before the 2024 season shuts down.
