THREE pedestrians were killed in separate road traffic accidents in Bulawayo on 13 July, prompting police to urge motorists to exercise greater caution and to stop after accidents to assist victims.
The fatal crashes occurred along the Bulawayo-Harare Road near Cecil Avenue turn-off, Khami Road opposite
Heroes Acre and the Bulawayo-Gwanda Road near Kensington Shops.
Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Nomalanga Msebele said the first accident occurred at around 1.45am along the Bulawayo-Harare Road.
“A 50-year-old man from Lower Rangemore was driving a Nissan Hardbody westbound with no passengers on board when he struck an unidentified female pedestrian, believed to be about 35 years old, who was crossing the road,” said Insp Msebele.
She said the woman sustained severe head injuries and died at the scene.
In the second incident, which occurred at around 6pm along Khami Road opposite Heroes Acre, a 28-year-old man from Pumula South was pushing a handcart while crossing the road.
“He was struck by an unknown commuter omnibus travelling east along Khami Road. The driver fled from the scene without stopping,” said Insp Msebele.
The victim sustained severe head injuries and died on the spot.
