A gang of armed robbers sent shockwaves through Bulawayo this morning after pulling off three lightning-fast heists at Sai Mart branches — one of them barely metres from a police station.
The daring crew, cruising in a blue hybrid Honda Fit with no number plates, hit Entumbane, New Lobengula, and Nkulumane 11 in quick succession, leaving shop staff shaken and an entire city asking how they pulled it off.
“It felt like a movie. Two guys walked in, cocked their guns and told everyone to lie down,” said a trembling employee at the Entumbane branch, where cops were seen gathering statements.
Sources said two more gang members remained in the getaway car, while the others cleaned out over US$4 000 from a money transfer counter inside the shop. One staffer fainted during the ordeal and had to be rushed to hospital.
In New Lobengula, the robbers used the same tactic, but this time pointed a gun at the security guard.
“I’m still traumatised. If I had my way, I’d knock off for a week,” said a female cashier.
At the Nkulumane 11 branch, CID Homicide detectives were seen recording statements as investigations got underway.
Bulawayo Police spokesperson Inspector Nomalanga Msebele said details would be released soon.
