THREE siblings from Gokwe died in an inferno after the hut they were sleeping in mysteriously caught fire, police have confirmed.
Midlands police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident which occurred on Saturday at around 11pm when Takudzwa (10), Ruvashe (5) and Tafara Sibanda (2) of Makunda village under Chief Chireya in Gokwe were burnt beyond recognition.
“I can confirm that three children were burnt beyond recognition when the hut they were sleeping in caught fire. It is suspected that the children’s blankets caught fire after their mother, Ms Loveness Mupamombe (37) locked the door from outside while she visited a prophet,” he said.
Insp Mahoko said on the fateful day, Ms Mupamombe was asleep in her hut with her four children when she claimed to be haunted by evil spirits.
He said Ms Mupamombe lit glowing splits in a bid to ward off the spirits but to no avail. Insp Mahoko said Ms Mupamombe then decided to visit a prophet in the same village.
