Addressing the journalists at the Chinese Embassy in Harare yesterday, Chinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe Mr Xin Shunkang said the seminar would present them with an opportunity to understand the political, economic, cultural and social development processes of China.
In a speech read on his behalf by the deputy ambassador, Mr Zhao Yong, Mr Shunkang revealed that the seminar was mainly in the form of discussion and field trips.
“The seminar includes meeting with central and Zhejiang provincial leaders, visiting Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Commerce, Xinhua News Agency, China Radio International, China Daily and net China.
“The participants will have a field trip to information agencies, mainstream media, enterprises and rural areas of Zhejiang Province,” he said.
The journalists will also receive lectures from experts from Information Office of the State Council, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Xinhua News Agency and Tsinghua University.
The holding of the seminar is a significant event in the Sino-Zimbabwe co-operation, especially in the field of information. It is part of the new eight measures carried out under the framework of FOCAC in Zimbabwe, Mr Shunkang added.
“Thanks to FOCAC, this year alone about 400 Zimbabwean government officers and people from all walks of life have attended various seminars held in China. On the other hand it is a follow-up measure soon after high-level Chinese media delegations’ visit to country. The delegations included Honourable Liu Yunshan, Member of the Politburo and Minister of Publicity Department of the Communist Party of
China Central Committee and Mr Li Wei, Vice Minister of the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television of China,” he said.
It will run from 2 to 22 December 2011. The journalists will return home on December 23, 2011.
