Youth Empowerment, Development and Vocational Training Minister Tinomuda Machakaire has conferred 318 graduates with certificates in various fields at Murombedzi Vocational Training Centre.
The graduates were drawn from all eight vocational training centres in Mashonaland West.
This was the province’s inaugural vocational training centres’ graduation ceremony.
Minister Machakaire challenged more women to enrol in engineering programmes.
According to the graduation list, most females enrolled in Hospitality and Tourism, and Cosmetology, among other courses.
He also said VTCs must promote sustainable agricultural practices, which are critical to Zimbabwe.
“Conservation agriculture, crop rotation and organic farming to improve soil health and water conservation are crucial and should be promoted,” he said.
The Minister also took time to encourage a multi-sectoral approach in dealing with the growing crisis of drug and substance abuse among youths.
Mashonaland West Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Marian Chombo also attended the ceremony.
Minister Chombo said the province has a target of setting up 22 VTCs given that infrastructure is already available across all the districts.
She also encouraged councils to avail land for the graduates to explore their talents.
The province has six established VTCs and two satellites, that is Norton and Mhondoro-Ngezi.
