Harare Mayor Jacob Mafume has pledged to ensure that international football returns to Rufaro Stadium by March 2025
He said this during the launch of the bucket seats installation at the stadium, which is being renovated.
“We are now in the second phase of the Rufaro project, and our goal is to make it ready for international matches by March next year,” he said.

The renovations include the installation of 22 000 bucket seats, with 6 000 planned for the VIP section.
Orkima, a Chinese-based company, is providing the seats.
Mayor Mafume also said there are plans to upgrade other stadiums like Gwanzura, Dzivarasekwa and Mabvuku.
“Once we are done with Rufaro, we will focus on upgrading other stadiums to make Harare a true football hub again,” he said.
The Mayor also announced the Mayor’s Cheer Fund Trophy, a charity tournament to raise funds for vulnerable communities.

“This tournament is a chance to raise funds to support orphans, the elderly, and those living with disabilities,” he said.
The launch of the seats installation also included a friendly match between Scottland FC and Herentals, with key football figures like Scottland FC’s owner Scott Sakupwanya and Simba Bhora FC’s owner Simba Ndoro attending.
