32 villagers complete sewing course

projects initiated by the Member of Parliament for Mhondoro-Mubaira constituency, Cde Sylvester Nguni, to empower women and underprivileged members of the society.
Speaking at the certification ceremony, Cde Nguni emphasised the need to empower women with skills that enabled the development of the society.
“Women are the pillars of the current society hence the need to impart them with skills that are relevant in our everyday life.
“It is a huge task for rural women to raise money and travel to urban centres with an agenda of buying uniforms for school-going children,” he said.
Government, Cde Nguni said, remained committed in empowering rural women and the underprivileged.
“There has to be eradication of dependence. All that women want is a starting point.
“Training in some training institutions has gone beyond the feasibility of many and the women will impart knowledge they acquired to their respective areas.
“Once they complete sewing the uniforms, the main agenda is to make uniforms and clothes accessible to all rural children at an affordable price,” Cde Nguni said.
Cde Nguni said the programme, which is expected to spread to provincial and national level, was aimed at uplifting impoverished societies.
The uniforms and clothes are targeted for the local market that includes local schools.
The women were also taught how to sew shirts, aprons and baby hats.
One of the participants, Mrs Elizabeth Tazvivinga commended the efforts and said the pilot project would enable them to generate some money to pay for her children’s school fees.
“Before I came here, I knew only about darning clothes with needles and it is a blessing that I can design clothes from scratch.
“This is a starting point and I have to source a market for the uniforms and generate some income for my family and at the same time pay school fees,” she said.
She thanked Cde Nguni for providing machines, material and accessories.
