Of the 30 born at Mpilo Central Hospital, 14 were boys and 16 girls and there were no recorded births at United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) on New Year’ Day.
When a Chronicle news crew visited the hospitals yesterday, officials said all babies were in good health and there were no stillbirths or other complications.
The matrons on duty at Mpilo Central Hospital, Mrs Sibusiwe Ndlovu and Mrs Susan Mupfure, said the babies were healthy and they had discharged most of the mothers.
“We welcomed quite a number of babies this New Year especially the girls and we are glad because they are healthy and we have since discharged most of them. The mothers are happy and have already given their babies names,” said Mrs Ndlovu.
Mrs Mupfure said they had no twins or triplets and the most important thing was that the babies and their mothers were healthy.
One of the mothers who was interviewed and preferred anonymity could not hide her joy and kept on smiling saying her baby was healthy.
“I am happy I gave birth on New Year’s Day. My baby is healthy and we will be leaving for home anytime soon,” said the visibly joyful mother.
