TWO Bulawayo women who, after being caught on CCTV, admitted to stealing a washing detergent from a supermarket by hiding it between their thighs, will be imprisoned if they fail to restitute the shop owner.

Nyaradzo Mawarire (32) from Lobengula suburb and Violet Siziba from Emganwini suburb were convicted on their own plea by Mr Manasa Musiiwa.

Two other women who were stealing together with Mawarire and Siziba are on the run.

Mr Musiiwa sentenced the pair to 36 months in prison each.

“Each of you is sentenced to 36 months in prison and 10 months is suspended for five years on a condition that you don`t commit a similar crime. The remaining 26 months is suspended on condition you restitute the complainant (TM supermarket) $622,” said the magistrate.

“This means that each of you should pay $311 to the supermarket before the end of March”.

In CCTV footage showed in court, Musiiwa and Siziba as well as two other women who are on the run, were seen stealing the washing detergent.

The footage showed them hiding the product between their thighs and walking out of the supermarket.
