Four suspected drug dealers appeared in court last week, facing murder charges following the fatal assault of an 18-year-old boy in Harare.
Shannel Nyakabawo (24), Vimbainashe Jamba (37), Edgar Kazingizi (43) and Robert Sifelani (23) were arraigned before Harare magistrate Ms Ruth Moyo.
They were advised to apply for bail at the High Court as they are facing a third schedule offence.
The matter was remanded to April 7 pending indictment.
Prosecutor Mr Lawrence Gangarahwe alleges that on April 19, 2026, at around 1am, the now-deceased Cosmas Gatsi (18), who was staying at a squatter camp along Avondale stream in Milton Park, went to the accused persons’ residence.
Gatsi was reportedly following up on a colleague who had gone there to purchase drugs.
According to the State, a misunderstanding arose after Gatsi woke the accused, leading to a scuffle.
The four allegedly teamed up and assaulted him using fists and unknown objects, inflicting serious injuries.
He sustained deep cuts to the head and chin and began bleeding profusely.
Despite managing to escape from the scene, Gatsi did not immediately seek medical attention.
Police from Avondale Police Station later received a tip-off and responded to the incident.
They interviewed Gatsi, who identified his alleged attackers, leading to the arrest of the four suspects.
A report of assault was filed, and Gatsi was issued a medical referral form before being directed to Parirenyatwa Hospital.
However, he died upon arrival at the hospital before receiving treatment.
