BINDURA was left shaken after a night of horror at Batanai Compound finally caught up with a man now branded a heartless predator. The Bindura Regional Magistrates Court has thrown the book at the accused, slapping him with 42 years behind bars for a sickening spree of rape and armed robbery.
The nightmare occurred in the early hours of 22 August 2025. It was just after 1AM when the villain forced his way into a tuckshop where a female attendant was fast asleep. He demanded cash, pocketing US$244 and a cellphone before unleashing a reign of terror that lasted nearly four hours.
The man sexually assaulted the terrified woman not once but four times as the minutes dragged into dawn. At one point he shoved a kitchen knife at her throat and forced her to lead him to her employer’s home. The sick ordeal only ended around 4.30AM when the woman finally escaped his clutches.
Police caught a lucky break a week later. On 30 August officers picked up the suspect on an unrelated public violence charge. A quick search revealed the stolen cellphone in his pocket. When the victim confidently unlocked it using her own security pattern, the game was up.
In court the magistrate condemned the man’s cold calculation and total disregard for human dignity. Each rape count earned him 15 years while the robbery added more time, resulting in an effective 42 year stay behind bars.
The ruling has been welcomed as a loud message that sexual predators will not roam free.
