FOUR Bulawayo men have appeared in court for allegedly assaulting their son-in-law, accusing him of delaying to pay their relative’s lobola.

Silence Maboda (23), Motion Maboda (20), Gerald Mupatsi (23) and Pardon Mandizvidza (20), all from Cowdray Park, appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Mr Jeconia Prince Ncube, facing charges of assault.

They were all remanded in custody to October 30, awaiting a medical report.
Prosecutor Ms Cathrine Kuzu told the court that the accused persons and the complainant are in-laws.

She said on October 19, at Cowdray Park signpost, the four accused persons and the complainant were at a snooker centre when a misunderstanding arose between the two parties.

The court heard that Cosmas Utete (27) was asked by the accused persons why he was delaying to pay lobola for their relative.

This did not go well, and a misunderstanding ensued, leading the accused persons to pounce on the complainant, using fists and open hands, and they dragged him.

The complainant sustained a blue eye and was referred to a local hospital for medical examination.
A police report was made, leading to the arrest of the accused persons, said Ms Kuzu.
